Project5000
Exceeds Its Goal
"Every gift counts," said President
Rodin in launching Project5000 in
September 2002. The ambitious initiative
that set out to attract 5,000 new donors
to The Penn Fund not only exceeded its
goal but also propelled The Penn Fund to
new records of giving from reunion and
non-reunion classes.
At the close of the fiscal year, The Penn
Fund boasted a total of 27,190 donors,
up 13 percent from last year. Among the
donors were 5,310 new participants — a
direct result of Project5000. The top five
alumni classes in overall participation
were 1978 (772 donors); 1983 (631
donors); 1981 (624 donors); 1982
(619 donors); and 1993 (615 donors). In
addition, a record 1,075 seniors — 46%
of the class — contributed $44,431.03 to
the Class of 2003 Senior Gift Drive.
Thrilled with their achievement, Penn
Fund Chair Elsie Howard, CW’68, praised
alumni for their participation. "This performance
is only the beginning," she said,
"and has challenged all of us to continue
to build on this great start." Elsie also
offered a special thanks to Project5000 chairs
Kirsten Bartok, C’94, Stephen Paul
Desjardins, W’90, WG’97, Sally Katz, C’82,
and Brett Weinheimer, W’00.
