Calling All Alumni...
"Every gift counts," says President Rodin, who launched PROJECT 5,000 this past September in a letter to all undergraduate alumni. The President's call for participation is aimed at improving the University's bottom line and sustaining its national rankings. "One area we must grow in order to ensure our competitive position [in the national rankings] is in annual support from alumni," she says.
Alumni are responding. The Penn Fund claimed 1,593 new donors as of December 1, 2002. The five top classes in overall donor participation were 1978 (291 donors); 1982 (290 donors); 1979 (284 donors); 1980 (267 donors); and 1981 (260 donors).
Behind the drive for participation are alumni leaders and loyal Penn Fund supporters Kirsten Bartok, C'94, Sally Katz, C'82, and Brett Weinheimer, W'00. Helping to get the message out and inspire giving are dozens of Penn students. "We have the right combination of alumni leadership and student callers," says Penn Fund Director Ken Goebel. "The willingness [of alumni] to give is there. This project is helping us be more effective in delivering our message."
PROJECT 5000 continues through June 30, 2003. Alumni can follow
