The Campus Visit

WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN I COME TO CAMPUS?

1) Visit the Office of Undergraduate Admissions
We strongly recommend students attend an Admissions information session and take a campus tour, both of which are offered daily by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Information sessions are presented by Admissions Officers and campus tours are led by current Penn students.

All information sessions begin at the Office of Admissions, 1 College Hall. Weekend tours that do not follow information sessions meet at the information desk in Houston Hall, 3417 Spruce Street. Be sure to allow yourself time to find parking if necessary and find your way to College Hall. Information sessions are one hour, while campus tours run for approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. No prior reservations are required. If you plan to visit during popular times of the year- holidays or school vacations- please anticipate large crowds.

2) If a student has a particular interest in the Wharton School, the School of Engineering, or the Nursing School, we would strongly recommend taking the school-specific tour as well.

3) Visit the Alumni Council on Admissions in the Sweeten Alumni House
Legacy Advising Sessions are scheduled at times which will coordinate with Admissions programming. The ACA has open advising sessions throughout the year, and reservations are not required.

If your travel plans will not allow you to attend a Legacy Advising Session, please call 215.898.6888 or email us. We may be able to make other arrangements with you.

4) Attend a few classes while visiting Penn
You do not need an appointment to visit a Penn class.  Just select courses using the links provided on the Admissions website (Special Visiting Opportunities).  There are MANY courses available.  Selecting a few favorites will take some time and effort, so be sure to plan in advance of your visit!  Follow the link for the undergraduate school of interest, and select a few courses based on subject area.  For each course, you can see the days and times, as well as the building and room number.  (If you click on the building abbreviation, you will see the full name of the building, and a link to a campus map showing where it is located.  Once in awhile, the building/map search does not find the building right away, and you’ll need to type the building name in the “search” bar.  Here is a searchable, clickable campus map.)

In planning your visit, we advise you to select several classes being offered at the same time.  You might reach a classroom and find that there’s an exam, or that the students are breaking into small teams, or that the course has changed its meeting time and place for that particular day.  If you’ve selected a few options before your visit, you’ll be able to easily move on to another class

Plan on arriving to the classroom a few minutes early so that you have time to introduce yourself to the professor and find a seat.  If you plan to leave the class early, it is best to sit near the exit.
