Dear Association of Latino Alumni,
First and foremost, I deeply thank you for your generosity. As a student that was raised in the Olney section of Philadelphia, money has always been a difficult issue for my family. I would like you to know that this scholarship not only benefits me but my entire family as well. With this scholarship you have lifted the financial burden that my family carries. WE are very grateful.
In the process of choosing a college, I fell in love with Penn. Its competitive atmosphere, top notch professors and beautiful campus convinced me that this was the school for me. The most convincing aspect of Penn, however, is the quality of education that students receive. I am in my second year at Penn and can already feel the transition. I am no longer the freshman that entered the College of Arts and Sciences; Penn has transformed me into a proactive and courageous individual who is never afraid to take risks and try something new.
For instance, I have been a member of Penn Latin and Ballroom Dance since first semester freshman year. Being a part of the team has taught me excellent time management skills, since we travel to different states for competitions. It has also cultured a strong school spirit in me. There is nothing like winning a dance for the team and surely there is nothing like being a part of the Penn community! Thank you for making this possible.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Martinez
