We are
very grateful for your interest and support of the
Association of Alumnae’s Health and Wellness
event scheduled for Saturday, October 24th. To our
regret, we have found it necessary to postpone this
event until sometime in the spring of 2010. We hope
that this postponement has not caused you any inconvenience.
We expect to reschedule for spring, 2010 and will
notify you once those plans are in place.

The Association
of Alumnae’s Annual Spring Meeting and Awards
Presentation will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
A wonderful evening is planned, and we look forward
to having our entire Board in attendance. We will present
our annual awards: the Rosemary D. Mazzatenta Scholars
Awards, the Continuing Education Award, and the Father’s
Trophy as well as the Robert J. Alig Student Leadership
Award. Our annual meeting is also traditionally the
time for the installation of our new officers and directors.

year the Association of Alumnae and the Office of Undergraduate
Admissions jointly sponsor a program for outstanding
junior women who attend secondary schools in the local
area. This program will provide an introduction to Penn’s
academic offerings and student life.

Penn Students and the 2008 Election

At its bimonthly Board Meeting, the
Association of Alumnae will welcome current Penn students
to represent and discuss our alma
mater’s democratic and republican student
organizations. We welcome any alumnae of the University
to attend Association of Alumnae meetings and programs.
Program begins at 5:30 p.m. A light dinner
is served at 6:30 p.m. Attendance at the meeting program
is free; there is a nominal charge for the optional
dinner. RSVP for dinner in advance by contacting Gerry

at 215-898-7811. Board meetings are held in the E. Craig
Sweeten Alumni House, 3533 Locust Walk, unless otherwise

The Association of Alumnae was pleased
to welcome Rachel Conrad, C’08, recipient of our
2007 Association of Alumnae Rosemary D. Mazzatenta Scholars
Award, to our January 22nd meeting. She joined us to
share her unique academic pursuits for which she used
her monetary award: a study following patients being
treated for AIDS in Botswana. We were fortunate to also
welcome Cheryl Shipman, Research Coordinator, Center
for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CURF), who
discussed the services and opportunities offered by
CURF. Penn sophomore and junior women, and all Penn
alumnae, were invited for dessert and to the evening’s
program.
The Association of Alumnae of the
University
of Pennsylvania has established the Association of Alumnae
Rosemary D. Mazzatenta
Scholars Award in the School of Arts and Sciences to recognize female members
of the sophomore or junior class in the College for
academic achievement and demonstrated service to country,
community, and family. This award is intended to be
used by the recipient for expenses incurred for a scholarly
purpose related to her education, including, but not
limited to, equipment, research, travel expenses, or
an unpaid internship.

95th
Anniversary Celebration
Wednesday,
November 14, 2007
The
Association of Alumnae hosted a wonderful reception
commemorating its 95th Anniversary at Claire M. Fagin
Hall (formerly the Nursing Education Building). After enjoying an inspiring welcome
from President Amy Guttmann, attendees heard from A
of A Presidents of the past, present and future, and
were treated to a performance by Quaker Notes, Penn’s
first all-female a cappella singing group.
