ARCHAEOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY
Amarna, Ancient Egypt's Place in the Sun
Lower Egyptian Gallery
This exhibit offers a rare look at the meteoric rise and fall of Amarna, boyhood home of Tutankahmun. The exhibit features more than 100 ancient artifacts, including
statuary of gods and goddesses, royalty, monumental reliefs, golden jewelry and personal items from the royal family. The exhibition complements the blockbuster traveling exhibition, Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs, at Philadelphia's
Franklin Institute.
Vanishing Worlds: Art and Ritual of Amazonia
Dietrich Gallery
Colorful headdresses, masks, body ornaments, and full body costumes, as well as domestic and utilitarian pieces like basketry, weapons, pottery and textiles, illustrate the largely vanished world of the Amazonian tribes that flourished prior to the advent of the Europeans.
Piranesi: The Grandeur of Ancient Rome

Sixty works by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, one of the major artists of 18th century Italian etching, convey the majesty and grandeur of ancient Rome. The exhibit includes engravings of Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli, the ancient Roman Forum and the pyramid tomb of Caius Cestius, as well as many tombs, ancient amphitheaters, bridges, fountains, temples, and architectural fragments.
