The Black Alumni Society is pleased to present the recipients of the BAS Student Leadership Awards. Given each year, this award recognizes a Black senior who has demonstrated leadership, advanced diversity at Penn through student activities or community service, and exemplifies excellence.

The 2008 BAS Student Leadership Award was presented to Davianne
C. Toomer, C'08 on May 2, 2008. Davianne majored in Communications and minored
in Consumer Psychology. As a student, she represented Penn to visiting
high school students from around the country as a member of the Kite & Key
Society, to local 8th graders through the Penn West Philadelphia Tutoring
Project and Big Brothers, Big Sisters of America, and to the Penn community
as 3-year Board member of Penn for UNICEF. As Vice President of Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc she was appointed to two North Atlantic Regional
committees, and won the title of "Miss AKA," a regional award given to
undergraduate who exudes overall academic, community service, leadership,
and sorority involvement. Davianne also worked passionately with the Penn
Fund to raise money for Penn.
