Project was conceived as an introduction
to the intellectual life of Penn. Since
then, every entering freshman has read
and discussed a common text. Find out
how the book is chosen, and join in the
conversation about Michael Pollan's The
Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History
of Four Meals to examine the ethical,
political, and ecological implications of
what we eat. For more information go

The purchase of 24 acres of postal lands
presents Penn with dramatic opportunities
for expansion to the east. Join Anne

Facilities and Real Estate Services, as
she discusses the near-and long-term plans
for this land that brings Penn to the banks
of the Schuylkill River.
MAKING HISTORY: IT'S IN OUR DNA
3:00 - 4:30 PM
Steinberg Hall-Dietrich Hall
3620 Locust Walk
As America's first University, Penn has long been in the vanguard of innovative ideas. From the nation's first medical school and world's first business school to groundbreaking work in nanoscale research, HIV/AIDS outreach, and urban education reform, Penn people make history every day. Join Sheldon Hackney, HON'93, former Penn President and current David Boies Professor of History, as he moderates this panel of passionate alumni who will share their experiences on the cutting edge of science, arts, and culture.
NEW! The panel features our own Peter
J. Jannetta, M.D. C'53 M'57, a world-renowned neurosurgeon whose groundbreaking research led to new treatments of syndromes like trigeminal neuralgia, a condition of debilitating pain on one side of the face. The first neurosurgeon to apply the operating microscope to trigeminal neuralgia, Dr. Jannetta developed a procedure to insert a small piece of Teflon between the nerve and offending blood vessel, giving immediate relief for most patients. After overcoming resistance in the medical community, his "Jannetta Procedure" is now the standard treatment for this painful condition. For a complete list of panelists,
visit the Alumni Weekend
website.
