Stephen D. Haymes Challenge

Endowing an undergraduate scholarship is the perfect gift to honor our 50th Reunion and, with the help of our classmate, Stephen D. Haymes, W’57, doing so just got easier.  Stephen has generously agreed to contribute matching funds toward the next four scholarship gifts made by members of our class. With the help of this exciting challenge, we hope to reach our goal of securing 10 undergraduate scholarships for our 50th.  Stephen’s gift totals an impressive $100,000 and will inspire an additional $500,000 in endowed scholarship support for Penn – one of the university’s highest priorities.   If you would like more information about how this challenge can help you make the gift of a scholarship, please call Scott Reynolds at 215-898-9503.

Your Support Makes a Difference

By designating our gifts to the Class of 1957 Geology Garden, our class will be contributing to the beautification of Penn’s campus grounds. Located next to Hayden Hall, this thematic garden with seating and lighting will feature geologic-related items including fossils, rock formations, landforms, and ancient plant species. The tranquil space will serve as a seating area for students to dine outside, study, or socialize. Your reunion gift will make this unique garden possible.

The Future of Penn

The Class of 1957 Endowed Scholarship Fund is a significant component of our reunion gift, as only 12% of Penn's endowment income is allocated to scholarships. Penn Fund dollars help to fill the funding gap by directing 51% of its gifts to financial aid. To meet its pledge to provide aid packages for 100% of each student's financial need, Penn is counting on its loyal alumni and friends to contribute to individual scholarships and general financial aid. Like our alumni, Penn students are highly intelligent and motivated individuals who go on to work across the globe in the upper echelons of business, medicine, law, academia, media, public and social services, and the arts. Your reunion gift will help to create the unique learning environment that allows these students to thrive and grow at the University of Pennsylvania.
