This scholarship has been established through the efforts of classmates Bruce Cummings, C'61, George Koval, W'61, Joseph Doyle, C'61 and Captain Barney Berlinger, class of 1960. The endowment currently provides financial support to two members of the 2006 football team, Sam McGarity '08 and Guillermo Ruffolo,'09.
During this past year the scholarship received a generous pledge in excess of $250,000 from the estate of Frank Dolson,W'54, well known Philadelphia sportswriter and close friend and supporter of the 1959 championship team. Frank's pledge specifically recognized Assistant Coach Dewey King and will expand the scholarship fund to a value of well over half a million dollars, eventually doubling the financial aid capability.
In addition to Bruce, George, Joe, and Barney, the scholarship has received contributions from all three team classes as well as other friends of the team. 1961 classmates supporting the fund include:
