Course that has taught me the most about myself: My high school calculus class showed me just how diverse my interests are and gave me confidence in my own intellectual and academic abilities.
My favorite thing about Philadelphia: My favorite thing about Philadelphia is how completely different it is from my hometown. I come from a very rural area in southwestern Pennsylvania, so the size, diversity, and opportunities of a large city are always appealing.
What I found most surprising about Penn: The most surprising thing about Penn that I have discovered thus far is how friendly and ready-to-help everyone is. I was afraid that the enrollment/registration process would be long and painful, but my advisors made it very easy.

Greetings from Mavis Snelson C'11, Class of 1969 Scholarship Recipient
Dear Class of 1969,
Thank you so much for your generous contribution to the financing of my education. Without your scholarship, I would probably not be able to attend Penn, which was and is the school of my dreams. I am from a very small town in southwestern Pennsylvania and graduated in a class of 73 people. I am only the second person from my high school to ever attend an Ivy League University, after my brother, who is enrolled at Columbia.
I couldn't be more excited to move to Philadelphia and start what I'm sure will be four amazing years at Penn. I am planning to study International Relations, but I also love music (I play the saxophone), art, literature, politics, history, and math. I assure you that through all of my varied interests, I will certainly make the most of my time at Penn. Thank you again for your generosity.
Sincerely,
Mavis Snelson, C'11
