Dear Classmates,
Greetings to all fellow members of the class of 1992 -- we're hoping that your thirteenth year since our graduation is the luckiest yet! The past few months have been full of transitions in West Philadelphia -- Penn has a new president, they're renovating Bennett Hall and Penn is creating a new Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center -- and, of course, thousands of alums are expected at Alumni Weekend, May 13-15.
I won't be there, myself, as I'm expecting my third child -- a girl this time -- at the end of April, but I know everyone who goes will have a great time. Between now and then, though, I would encourage you all to post an update on the Alumni Online Community. Let classmates know about your online photo albums, updates on jobs, hobbies and business projects, marriages, moves, and anything else interesting or exciting.
Also, we're trying to create a list of all Class of 1992 blogs (and websites) -- please send me the URL for yours, and we'll be able to have a link to it in the newsletter and eventually, on our class page.
So let us know what's going on with you! Post an update on the online community or send your blog/online journal URL to me at heidi@heidi8.com and we'll make sure to include it on the website. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to drop me a note, or catch me on Yahoo Messenger at HeidiTandy -- I'm on a lot during the day.
Best wishes for a wonderful 2005!
See you in May!

Members of the Class of 1992,
Happy 2005! It has only been a few months since Homecoming, but I can still recall many wonderful moments from the weekend, including the Inauguration of Penn's eighth President. Although the weather forecast put the kibosh on the parade, there was still plenty of pomp and circumstance to go around as we celebrated the arrival and leadership of Dr. Amy Gutmann. I know that Dr. Gutmann will be touring alumni locales around the country and around the world. Please make an effort to attend one of these events and introduce yourself to her. She is a great leader for Penn and enjoys seeing and hearing from active alumni.
An upcoming opportunity to meet Dr. Gutmann will be at Alumni Weekend, May 13-15, and Commencement on May 16. As I have for many years, I am honored to once again carry the class flag for these events and would love some company! I do understand that it is our 13th year since graduation, so unless you're as fanatical as I am, not many will be in attendance. However, it also means that we have only 2 years until our next major reunion year in 2007. Heidi Howard Tandy does an amazing job as our Class Newsletter Editor, but the two of us would really like to get more folks involved as we approach our 15th Reunion Year. If you'd like to help, please e-mail me at iramail@starpower.net. We're looking for folks who might help organize events or raise awareness in different regions around the country (or in other countries, for that matter).
Lastly, heeding Heidi's plea for updates, I am happy to share some wonderful personal news. I continue to live in Washington, DC and work as Managing Director of Round House Theatre, a professional nonprofit theatre in Bethesda and Silver Spring, MD with two theatre facilities and an education center. (www.roundhousetheatre.org)
The big news, however, is that on August 28, 2004, I got married to Jeremy Barber at the Decatur House in Washington, DC. Many Penn friends were in attendance, but no toast was thrown. No highballs were consumed either. Instead, guests enjoyed selections from our martini bar with "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue" (recipes available upon request).
We decided to forego our honeymoon and volunteered to work in Santa Fe, NM for two weeks with the Kerry Travelers Program. Despite our good work (and that of many other great people we met), the state went red (just like the country). Now that the "period of mourning" through Inauguration Day has passed, I am working on staying in better touch with fellow alums, whatever your political affiliation. Please feel free to get back in touch: iramail@starpower.net.
I hope to see or hear from many of you soon,
Ira J. Hillman, C'92, W'92
