Introduced in 1991, the Penn Reading
Project was conceived as an introduction
to the intellectual life of Penn. Since
then, every entering freshman has read
and discussed a common text. Find out

presents Penn with dramatic opportunities

The Future of Politics in America

With issues like Iraq, health care,
immigration, terrorism, and government
scandals dominating election year news,
prominent Penn alumni from a number
of fields will assess the current political
climate and what it means for the future.
Donald F. Kettl, the Stanley I. Sherr
Endowed Term Professor in the Social
Sciences and Director of the Fels Institute

The panel features our own Jefrey Pollock, C'93, President of Global Strategy Group, a company providing customized market research, media relations, message development and public affairs campaigns. Jefrey has provided focus group analysis for ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" and often appears as a political commentator on CNN, MSNBC, and the FOX News Channel.

numbers of Penn graduates to the fields.
Moderating the discussion will be the
director of Cinema Studies Program,
Karen Beckman, the Elliot and Roslyn
Jaffe Associate Professor of Film Studies.

The Anatomy of Healthcare Reform

With healthcare reform a major issue
in a presidential election year, the School
of Nursing, Diversity Alliance and Penn Alumni are
co-hosting a panel of prominent nursing,
business, government, and consumer
advocacy leaders who will explore the
government's role in advancing health-
care, how to influence public policy, and
steps to improve individual health. For

annual State of the University with an
emphasis this year on Making History:
The Campaign for Penn. There will be
opportunity for questions about the
programs and facilities that will help
Penn "make history." Seating is
limited; simulcast will be available for
overflow crowd.
ALUMNI DAY PICNIC AND
PARADE OF CLASSES

Gather with classmates at Hill Square
for this year's Alumni Day Picnic.
Throughout the Picnic, enjoy a range of
professional entertainment as well as
student performing arts groups.
All alumni — from the oldest to the
youngest — are invited to celebrate
Penn's history by marching with pride
through the heart of campus. President
Amy Gutmann, along with the Penn
Band and Glee Club, will lead the Old
Guard, 25th and 50th Reunion classes,
and alumni from each reunion through
College Green to Hill Square. Whether
marching or cheering, all alumni and
their families can participate in this
proud Penn tradition, culminating in a
rousing rendition of The Red and Blue.
QUAKERKIDS 2008

Bring the whole family to paint the
campus red and blue! Stop by after the
Picnic for great treats and fun activities
most appropriate for children ages 10
and under. Be sure to visit Penn Vet's
M*A*S*H Tent, where kids will get a
chance to stitch, mend and take home
stuffed animal patients, aided by
veterinary students and faculty trauma
docs. As a bonus, specialists from the
Philadelphia Zoo will be on hand with
furry and feathered friends sure to
delight all ages.

Making History is about engaging
alumni in the life of this great University
by broadening and cultivating our most
important relationships. All alumni are
invited to spend an evening with friends,
food, and music that celebrate Penn's
cultural diversity. Be a part of this
opportunity to make new memories with
fellow graduates and friends. The event
is hosted by the Penn Alumni Diversity
Alliance: the Association of Native Alumni,
the Association of Latino Alumni, the
Black Alumni Society, the James Brister
Society, the Lesbian Gay Bisexual
Transgender Alumni Association, and
the University of Pennsylvania Asian
Alumni Network.

The Reunion Registration Package
includes access to all events: the
Alumni Weekend seminars and
social events, as well as your class
reunion events and the Alumni Day
Picnic. Online registration will open in March at www.alumni.upenn.edu/alumniweekend2008.
Register online by Friday, May 9,
2008. After May 9, you must register at the Alumni
Weekend Registration Tent on College
Green on May 16 or 17. All attendees
will receive their Alumni Weekend
pass, parking voucher, and information
about the Weekend at the Tent. No
refunds will be issued after Monday,
May 12, 2008.
