Reunion Events + Registration Information

FRIDAY, MAY 15

CONCURRENT ALUMNI PANELS
3:00-4:30 PM

Steinberg Hall-Dietrich Hall
3620 Locust Walk
  • The Relationship of Politics and the Economy
    Steinberg Hall-Dietrich Hall, Room 350

As voters went to the polls this past November, the economy was one of the major issues that influenced people. How real is the influence of politics on the economy? Do politics and the economy go hand in hand, even when some experts say that there's no connection? Join moderator David B. Thornburgh, Executive Director of the Fels Institute of Government, as he surveys a panel of Penn alumni in the fields of politics and economics including political media expert Bob Gardner, C'64, WG'67; political consultant and pollster Frank Luntz, C'84; and the Mayor of Philadelphia, The Honorable Michael Nutter, W'79.

  • What is Reality? From News to Reality TV
    Steinberg Hall-Dietrich Hall, Room 351

From the inception of newscasts, reality has been a form of entertainment. From MTV's premiere of The Real World in 1992 to sensational news reporting, from live sports coverage to reality TV finales, these programs captivate us, leaving us to blur the defining line between what is real and what is scripted. Join in the discussion about this phenomenon with alumni panelists in the field as Michael X. Delli Carpini, Dean of the Annenberg School for Communication, moderates the discussion.
