May 2, 2008 Did You Know… that Penn alumnus and prominent stem-cell researcher James Thomson, V'85, GR'88, was elected into the National Academy of Science? The NAS is a society of scholars who dedicate themselves to helping the future of science, technology and engineering research, and is known to be one of the greatest honors for a scientist or engineer. Thomson is considered a pioneer in his field and was the first to successfully culture and maintain human embryonic stem cells.
