Did You Know... that two Penn professors have been awarded 2008 Guggenheim fellowships? The prestigious John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowships have been bestowed upon Michael Leja, professor of art history in the School of Arts and Sciences, and Don Mitchell, a visiting scholar in residence in Penn's Annenberg School for Communication.
Professor Leja studies the visual arts in various media; painting, sculpture, film, photography, prints and illustrations in the 19th and 20th centuries, primarily in the United States. Professor Mitchell studies laborers and the working classes, marginalized people, and theories of culture in Marxism and geography.

Did You Know… that Pennsylvania's upcoming primary election is drawing more well-known figures to Philadelphia than just presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama? Stephen Colbert, the host of the Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report," will be taping at Annenberg Center's Zellerbach Theatre from Monday, April 14 - Thursday, April 17. The taping will take place each evening at 7:30 pm and will be shown at 11:30 pm ET/10:30pm CT the same night; limited tickets were available to students.

Did You Know… that two Penn students were awarded Truman Scholarships? The prestigious Truman Scholarship is awarded to juniors who show leadership potential and are committed to careers in public service. Thomas Hayling Price, C'09, and Daniel Lee Tavana, C'09, will receive up to $30,000 to pursue graduate degrees in government, education and advocacy sectors. Tavana has served as the secretary-general of Penn's Model United Nations Conference, and in 2007 worked for the House Committee on Armed Services, assisting in the authorization of the Defense budget. Thomas Hayling Price mobilized the Penn Student Labor Action Project, a campaign focused on campus security officers. Price spent a semester abroad in Ghana researching economic development.
