Did You Know... that Richard Hodges has been named the Williams Director of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology? Hodges will join Penn on October 1st from his position as director of the Institute of World Archaeology at the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom. A world-leading classical and early medieval archaeologist specializing in western Europe, Hodges previously served as director of both The Prince of Wales' Institute of Architecture in London and The British School in Rome.

Did you know… that Alumni Relations and The Penn Fund introduces students to the history and traditions of the University of Pennsylvania through "Penn Traditions: Building Our Community?" The Penn Traditions Program is a comprehensive approach to student development/alumni relations programming, with the objective of creating student understanding and awareness of Penn's institutional mission, history and traditions, the partnership financing higher education, University goals, and the role of alumni and students within the greater Penn community. The program holds fun and exciting events for incoming students starting on Wednesday, August 29 with an interactive, multi-media presentation about Penn's rich history and revered traditions called "Highball to Hey Day: The Penn Experience." On Friday, August 31st students can put their Penn knowledge to the test as they compete on teams to win the ultimate trivia contest, Penn Traditions Quizzo.

Did You Know... that the book selected for the Penn Freshman Reading Project this year is The Omnivore's Dilemma? The book is about economics and nutrition, as well as about American history, agriculture, anthropological traditions, and psychology. In fact, Penn Professor of Psychology Paul Rozin originally coined the phrase "the omnivore's dilemma." This Reading Project book was one of the New York Times' Best Books of 2006.

Did You Know… that Dr. Krishna P. Singh, GME'69, GR'72, has donated $20 million to Penn's School of Engineering and Applied Science to create the Krishna P. Singh Center for Nanotechnology? The Center, a planned 100,000 square-foot facility that will serve not only the Penn campus but the entire Philadelphia region, will function as a crossroads of multi-disciplinary fundamental and translational research, education and innovation.

"Kris Singh," the Founder and Chief Executive of Holtec International, in Marlton, NJ, "has supported his alma mater in many important ways throughout the years," Penn President Amy Gutmann said. "This far-reaching gift," the largest in the history of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, "reflects his lifetime commitment to learning and leading as well as Penn's commitment to be at the forefront in advancing nanotechnology research."

Did You Know… that Willis J. Stetson, Jr., is retiring as Dean of Admissions, effective June 30, 2008? Dean Stetson has had a brilliant 40 year career -- including the past 29 at Penn -- and is planning to embark upon a well-deserved retirement, which will include consulting in higher education admissions. As Dean of Admissions at Penn since 1978, he has led a recruitment program that resulted in a more than three-fold increase in applications -- 7,000 per year when his tenure began, to nearly 23,000 today. Dean Stetson's many notable achievements are demonstrated by the growing quality and quantity of our recent admitted classes. This year, only 16.1 percent of applicants were accepted into the class of 2011, the lowest acceptance rate in Penn's history.
