Did You Know... that Penn GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science) Campers graduated from a week-long summer program on Friday, August 7, in a ceremony that included a show of animation projects, video and robots programmed and designed by the students? Under the auspices of Advancing Women in Engineering (AWE) -- a program established in Fall 2007 to recruit, retain, and promote women in Penn Engineering, Penn GEMS is a week-long summer program for middle-school girls to tackle topics in science, math, and engineering at Penn through hands-on experience.

Did You Know... that Penn is hosting a Neuroscience Boot Camp? The nine-day seminar, which starts on August 6th, is designed to give participants a basic foundation in cognitive and affective neuroscience and to equip them to be informed consumers of neuroscience research. The camp also fulfills a scholarly mission to extend neuroscience beyond academia and engage policy makers, advocacy groups, and industry professionals in the full range of fields affected by progress in neuroscience such as business, the military, law and education.

Did You Know... that Thomas Eakins' painting, The Gross Clinic, or Portrait of Professor Gross, will be the text for the 2009-10 Penn Reading Project (PRP)? On the afternoon of Sunday, September 6, groups of first-year students and faculty leaders will join together to discuss this work as part of New Student Orientation for the Class of 2013. This is the first Penn Reading Project to use a visual text, and The Gross Clinic will introduce students from the start to the critical skill of interpreting visual material. This choice also reflects a yearlong celebration of an arts and culture theme in Philadelphia.
