Did you know... that Penn is expanding its financial aid program to eliminate loans and improve affordability for undergraduates? This will help make it possible for students from a broad range of economic backgrounds to graduate debt-free. According to Penn President Amy Gutmann, "Making a Penn education accessible to exceptionally talented students from the broadest array of economic backgrounds possible is fundamental to our mission."

Did You Know... that Security Magazine has ranked Penn No. 1 for safety in the educational market? With the largest private police department in Pennsylvania (116 members), Penn was ranked sixth out of 500 businesses and organizations recognized for being proactive in improving security. "Based on the size of the Penn campus, having more than 50,000 students, employees and patients in the area daily, and being located within a major urban center, Penn has invested significantly in security and as a result finds itself atop the education market," Security Magazine Publisher Mark McCourt said.
"It's a great honor to be recognized for Penn's efforts to keep the campus and surrounding area safe for our students, faculty, staff and visitors," Maureen Rush, Penn's Vice President for Public Safety, said.

Did You Know... that RealArts@PENN is a new project of the College of Arts & Sciences, intended to support creative Penn undergraduates doing art in the realm of practice? In its first year RealArts is sponsoring six paid summer internships -- at MTV Networks, Rolling Stone magazine, Brooklyn Films, Shore Fire Media, Grand Central Publishing and Women Make Movies. RealArts internships and programs are open to students from all four undergraduate schools.

Did You Know… Philadelphia's City Hall will be over flowing with Penn alumni starting in January 2008? Mayor-elect Michael Nutter, W'79, has appointed Clarence Armbrister, C'79, as Chief of Staff and Rob Dubrow, C'81, WG'87, as finance director to his administration. Clarence Armbrister is also a member of Penn's James Brister Society, an organization of alumni leaders who seek to promote diversity across the University.
In addition to these two appointments, Nutter also announced President Amy Gutmann as part of his transition team. The transition committee will evaluate the city's operations and develop long-term policy plans in preparation for the mayor-elect's administration.
