Did You Know... that Denis F. Kinane has been named dean of Penn's School of Dental Medicine, effective July 1st? Dr. Kinane is currently the Delta Dental Endowed Professor in the Department of Periodontics, Endodontics and Dental Hygiene and associate dean for research and enterprise at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and a professor of microbiology and immunology in the University of Louisville School of Medicine. A native of Scotland, Kinane earned his bachelor of dental surgery in 1980 and his Ph.D. in microbiology in 1983, both from the University of Edinburgh.

"Dr. Kinane brings to Penn a compelling and interdisciplinary vision for the future of dental science," President Gutmann said. "He has a deep understanding of the interdependence among the educational, research and clinical missions of a dental school and an unyielding commitment to the highest quality teaching, excellence in patient care and eminence in research."

Did You Know... that the Weave Pedestrian Bridge recently opened to traffic at Penn? Part of the Penn Connects initiative, the Weave bridge helps to connect Penn's campus to new and current athletic facilities, the Schuykill Park and Center City. It spans from the Amtrak Northeast Corridor train lines to the Hollenback Center and the athletic fields to the south.

Did You Know... that Laurie O. Robinson, Director of the University of Pennsylvania Criminology Department's Master of Science Program, has been appointed acting assistant attorney general of the U.S. Justice Department's Office of Justice Programs (OJP)? Robinson had previously served as assistant attorney general from 1993 to 2000. Under her leadership, the OJP grew substantially with an annual appropriation increase from $800 million in 1993 to $4 billion in 2000. Her seven-year tenure as an assistant attorney general in the OJP was the longest of any director in the federal criminal justice assistance agency's history. Robinson has taken a leave of absence from Penn.
