Did You Know... that the Wharton Societal Wealth Generation Program offers support to entrepreneurs and start-up businesses around the globe? Program leaders believe they can create new wealth and improve the lives of people in struggling communities. Already, the new program has helped launch a successful animal feed business in Southern Africa that pays dozens of employees a living wage and could spur spinoff businesses in the area.

Did you know... that incoming freshmen to the University of Pennsylvania's College of Arts and Sciences can register for courses and communicate with academic advisors face-to-face before the fall semester begins without stepping foot on campus? Thanks to a series of live webcasts, participants can submit questions before and during the webcasts, and students will be able to access the archives later. College Dean Dennis DeTurck says this is "so that our students begin to engage with the important questions they need to consider on their way in."

Did you know... that Yongwon Choi, PhD, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, has been awarded Korea's 2006 Ho-Am Prize in Medicine? The award recognizes scholars and researchers who make outstanding achievements by international standards while encouraging future activities of even higher levels and who also present exemplary models for the academic community.

While chili peppers are better known for causing pain to diners who eat them unwittingly, they may actually be more useful in pain relief. Dr. Dottie Brown, assistant professor of surgery at Penn's Ryan Veterinary Hospital, is working with the National Institutes of Health to test the analgesic properties of resinferatoxin (RTX), a spicy extract of the Moroccan version of the chili pepper.
