Did You Know… that Matt Valenti, C'07, won his second NCAA Wrestling Championship at 133 lbs? He becomes only the second two-time national champion in Penn history, joining Dick Di Batista, Ed'43, GEd'46, who won 175-pound titles in 1941 and 1942. Matt defended his national title Saturday evening, defeating Oklahoma State's Coleman Scott, 4-2, before a record 17,780 fans at the 2007 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Palace of Auburn Hills, MI.

Did you know… that James A. Baker III, former Secretary of State and Secretary of the Treasury, will be commencement speaker at the University of Pennsylvania's 251st Commencement on Monday, May 14, 2007? "A noted expert in foreign affairs, he is an excellent choice to address our graduates as they begin their journey as citizens and leaders of an increasingly complex and interconnected global society," said President Amy Gutmann. He will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree at the Penn Commencement. Other honorary degree recipients include:

* Aaron Temkin Beck -- A University of Pennsylvania emeritus professor of psychiatry, Beck is best known for his early work in the 1960s surrounding cognitive therapy, and has been instrumental in changing the psychological understanding and treatment of conditions like depression, anxiety and panic disorders.

* Caroline W. Bynum -- A professor of medieval European history at the Institute for Advanced Study's School of Historical Studies, Bynum is credited with creating a paradigm for the study of medieval women's piety.

* Mildred Dresselhaus -- As a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dresselhaus has been a leader in physics for more than 40 years, conducting ground-breaking research in condensed matter and material physics.

* Aretha Franklin -- The legendary vocalist will be awarded an honorary doctor of music degree. Franklin was the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in 1987.

* Ruth Bader Ginsburg -- As a Supreme Court justice, Ginsburg has played an instrumental role in advancing women's rights.

* Shirley Franklin -- a 1969 graduate of Penn, she's the first woman to serve as mayor of Atlanta, where she is now in her second term. She's also the first African-American woman to serve as mayor of any major southern city.

Did you know... that Andrew C. Porter, the Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor of Leadership Policy and Organization and Director of the Learning Sciences Institute at Vanderbilt University, has been named Dean of the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania?

"Andy Porter has a broad and inspiring vision of the role that a leading school of education can play in today's world -- locally, nationally and globally. He is enthusiastic about building upon Penn GSE's impressive contributions to educational research, teaching, practice and policy and expanding GSE's interdisciplinary collaborations across Penn," Penn President Amy Gutmann said.
