Did you know. . . that Barbaro, winner of the Kentucky Derby, is resting comfortably after having major orthopedic surgery on Sunday, May 21 at the George D. Widener Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine’s New Bolton Center in Kennett Square? Barbaro's owners Roy Jackson, C'61, and Gretchen Jackson, CW'59, were happy that the surgery appears to be a success. Barbaro fractured his right hind leg in three places during the running of the Preakness on Saturday, May 20.

Did You Know. . . that Pitch -- the Movie, a film co-produced by College sophomore Pierce Cravens, will screen at the Cannes Film Festival? The film will show in the Short Film Corner, a section of the festival that features films that are not entered for awards. The 20-minute comedy trails two fictional New York University students who pitch their film idea to a major studio. Cravens said the humor used is similar to that of the popular television series Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. The Cannes Film Festival will run from May 17 to May 28 in Cannes, Franc

Did You Know... that the University of Pennsylvania's 250th Commencement, held on Monday, May 15, 2006, will be broadcast live on the internet? Webcast coverage of the proceedings from Franklin Field will begin at 9:00 a.m. EDT. The ceremony will feature the conferral of degrees, the awarding of honorary degrees, greetings by University officials, and our Commencement speaker, Jodie Foster, actress, producer and director. This year's honorary degree recipients include Jodie Foster, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Shirley Ann Jackson, Lawrence Klein, Judith Klinman, and Stephen Wynn, C'63.
