Did You Know… that Making History -- The Campaign for Penn is unique in higher education for its stated non-financial goals? Beyond the financial targets that are mostly associated with campaigns, Penn has outlined specific non-financial goals for engagement that represent its commitment to broadening and cultivating its most important relationships.
The goals are:
- Strengthen campus and regional activities that engage alumni, students, parents, and friends and provide increased access to Penn's vast academic resources.
- Build on the success of alumni class and affinity group programming, creating new ways for alumni to connect with each other.
- Expand career networking opportunities for alumni and students.
- Grow the number of alumni who support Penn's commitment to educational excellence through their annual gifts.
- Increase the number of individuals who create lasting legacies at Penn through their planned gifts and Harrison Society participation.
- Deepen student awareness and involvement in the full range of development and alumni relations activities.

Did You Know… that the theme selected this year for study by the Penn Humanities Forum is the question of “Origins”? In its ninth year now, this annual forum at Penn is charged with taking a fresh look at ideas that touch on the human experience. The goal is to demonstrate the importance of humanistic thought across the arts, sciences, and professions, and to invite the public and the university to discover their common stake in the "thinking arts."

Did You Know… that Penn President Amy Gutmann is featured in an October 15th Newsweek article about "11 Remarkable Women?" In the article, titled "What I Learned," Dr. Gutmann discusses her ideas on mentorship and the evolution of women in the workplace.

Did You Know… that Penn's Center for Community Partnerships will be named for Edward, C'53, and Barbara Netter in recognition of their commitments of more than $10 million? Since its 1992 founding, the Netter Center has been a catalyst for the transformation of West Philadelphia from a declining neighborhood to one with a promising future. Penn faculty teach more than 50 courses a year that engage students with the community, enriching their academic experience as well as benefiting the neighborhood they serve. According to Dr. Ira Harkavy, C'70, GR'79, the Center's Founding Director and Associate Vice President, "The Netters' inspiring generosity will enable colleagues at Penn and in the community to take their work to the next level, making a greater difference on campus, in the community and in society in general.”

Did You Know… that Penn's Kelly Writers House is offering seven online book discussion groups for the 2007-2008 school year? All you need is an email account and a willingness to engage in free and perhaps free-wheeling discussion of an interesting book with a member of Penn's faculty.
