The multi-billion dollar sports and entertainment industry has had a tremendous impact on U.S. culture. Spanish-speakers are now an important market segment, numbering as many as 30 million, or three-quarters of the 40-plus million of Hispanics who live in the United States. Clemson Smith Muņiz, C'79, became a pioneer of Spanish-language broadcasting in the early 1990's. Since then, he has helped grow this segment of the industry at both the local and national levels, announcing for teams, including the Knicks, Jets and Mets, and programs on HBO Sports, ESPN International, and Univisiķn Radio, to name a few. Come hear how Smith Muņiz got started in the field, how he anticipated and helped expand U.S. sports broadcasting in Spanish, and how he thinks the sports and entertainment industry will continue to develop in the future.
