The Trustees' Council of Penn Women was originated in
1987. The first group of its kind, TCPW has been a
model for other universities nationwide which have
subsequently established alumnae committees to address
women's issues on their campuses. To date, individual
members have given over $173 million for programs and
initiatives at Penn. Over the past 20 years, TCPW has
achieved the following as an organization:
Members of the Trustees' Council of Penn Women initiated
the Celebration of 125 Years of Women at Penn, which
took place November 1-2, 2001. During the celebration,
the Generational and Women's Walkway, a renovation
of the Class of '49 Bridge at 38th Street, was unveiled
and a book, Franklin's Daughters,
was published. Two years later, in November 2003, artist
Jenny Holzer's 125 Years,
a curving walkway of text-based sculpture located in
Hill Square, was dedicated representing the culmination
of the University's celebration of 125 years of women
at Penn.
Celebrating 20 years of service to Penn.
29 TCPW members have served or are currently serving as Penn Trustees.
71 members have served or are serving as Penn Overseers.
Funded over $500,000 to organizations and individuals through their established
programs - the FEW
(Fund to Encourage Women) Grant, Research
Stipends and TCPW
Grant.
Brought influential speakers to campus, including former First Lady Hillary
Rodham Clinton who gave the keynote address during TCPW's 10th Anniversary
Celebration.
Originated PENNQuest, the pre-freshman camp.
Established the Davies Term Chair and the Trustees'
Council Term Chair in Women's Studies.
Hosted an annual Career Networking Event for undergraduate
women
since 1987.
Founded a national job shadowing program.
Began "Sport to Support" Program, which supports a female sports team each
season:
- Funded a crew shell for the women's crew team
- Funded the women's gymnastics team with equipment and locker room supplies
- Funded purchase of warm-up suits for women's Squash team
- Funded women's softball team's initiative to increase spectators by providing raffle prizes
- Held pep rally for women's Tennis team when the team was traveling
- Funded purchase of warm-up suits and uniforms for women's track team
Sponsored summer networking events for undergraduates and young alumni in
New York, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles.
Initiated career and lifestyle panels and lectureship
programs featuring acclaimed keynote speakers.
Presented an annual Leadership Award to an outstanding
junior woman.
Funded a women's sports video.
Created a student advisory panel comprised of undergraduate
female leaders.
Presented
the annual Michelle Huber-Bryan D. Giles Memorial
Award to an undergraduate in the Management and Technology
program.
Presented the Beacon Award, which pays tribute to
an individual or individuals whose achievements and
efforts have fostered the influence of women and women's
issues, to eight recipients.
Planned and hosted events for female faculty members.
Increased women leadership on all University boards.
Analyzed women's issues and opportunities at Penn
and developing initiatives in response.
Funded national speakers on topics of student interest.
Established the Judith Seitz Rodin Fellowship in Psychology.
Co-sponsored, with the Penn Professional Women's Network,
the Judith Seitz Rodin Prize for Innovative Leadership.
Funded a national speaker on Eating Disorders in conjunction with
Penn's counseling center.
Produced Body Image Panel during Women's Week 2006.
Produced Facebook Panel during Women's Week 2008.
