Grants for Faculty
Fund to Encourage Women
(FEW) Grant
The FEW Grant was established to bring to campus internationally
renowned female scholars to lecture and meet with faculty
and students. The FEW recipients not only lecture but
also serve as role models for female students during
the day or two that they are on campus. FEW Grants went
to the Physics, Chemistry, and Math departments several
years in a row. The FEW Grants have been extremely successful
in achieving their ultimate goal of increasing the number
of female faculty members at Penn, particularly in departments
where they are underrepresented. Each year, a Request
for Proposal is mailed to departments by the School
of Arts and Sciences.
Proposals are typically due in April and awards are announced in early summer.
Interested
parties can contact Cara Palladino in the SAS Office of External Affairs at (215)

Summer Research Stipends
The Trustees' Council of Penn Women offers Summer Research
Stipends to female faculty or faculty members whose
research is centrally concerned with the role of women
in society, science, or arts and letters. These awards
are given to assist in the promotion of standing faculty
to the permanent rank of Associate Professor. A public
request for applications is made in the spring each
year. Research proposals will be reviewed and awarded
through a peer review process. Interested parties can
contact the Alice Paul Center for Research on Women
and Gender at 215-898-8740.
