PENN'S COMPACT WITH PEOPLE OF COLOR: ACCESS TO EDUCATION

Studio Theater
Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts

Penn President Amy Gutmann and a panel of renowned alumni, faculty and friends will conduct a thought-provoking discussion on access to education for people of color. The James Brister Society (JBS) will then present the premiere of a landmark documentary, 125 Years of Diversity at Penn, produced by award winning filmmaker Louis Massiah. By highlighting the experiences of the first Asian, African-American, Latino and Native-American students at the University, the documentary addresses how a leading university integrates racial and ethnic diversity into its fabric. Reception to follow.

Dr. James Brister received a degree from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Dental Medicine in 1881, making him Penn's first graduate of color. This event concludes JBS's year-long celebration of the 125th anniversary of his graduation.

JBS is a group of diverse alumni leaders who support the University's efforts to maintain a diverse community.
