INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ART
Speaker: Stamatina Gregory, Whitney Lauder Curatorial Fellow
Odili Donald Odita
Nigerian-born Odili Donald Odita's abstract wall paintings combine Western modernism and African culture. His vast mural,
created for the ICA's Ramp, speaks to a contemporary experience
of dislocation and lack of centeredness.
Kate Gilmore
Combining physical comedy and a whiff of danger, Kate Gilmore's
performance-based video works have her climbing a tower of
furniture, jumping rope in stilettos, and roller skating up a ramp.
In this exhibit, she stars in a new challenge and video.
Douglas Blau
Douglas Blau uses postcards, art illustrations, movie stills, news
photos, and other images to create detailed pictures and epic
panoramas. His latest exhibition was 10 years in the making.
R. Crumb's Underground
Robert Crumb's funny animals and misguided souls vibrate with
libidinal obsessions, feminist empowerment, racial tension, and
counterculture paranoia. This retrospective includes early
comics, greeting cards, collaborations, and sketchbooks, as well
as drawings and sculptures.
