Communications Committee
Co-chairs: Dean A. Henry W'74 and Deborah A. Niles, MD C'85
Charge: To oversee the production of The Brister Pages, the JBS bi-annual newsletter; to oversee the updating of the JBS website and to develop public relations and other communication strategies for the organization.
Duties include: Working with Alumni Relations to assign and draft articles, edit, approve the layout and develop a production schedule for the newsletter; generating ideas for increasing the visibility of the society and improving inter-group communication, working with other committees on their outreach efforts; and periodically reviewing the JBS website to make sure it is current, accessible and interesting.
Development Committee
Chair: John G. Chou, Esq. L'84
Charge: To develop the budget, engage membership in fundraising plan, and oversee the JBS Endowed Scholarship and Emergency Grant Fund.
Duties include: Assisting in budget preparation, generating ideas about fundraising projects, identifying and assisting in the solicitation of donors; and working with the Development Office to encourage participation in the JBS fundraising initiatives.
Nominating/Membership Committee
Chair: Clemson Smith Muñiz C'79
Charge: To identify and recruit new members; to refine the process for nominating new members; and to engage JBS membership in recruiting new members.
Duties include: Identifying alumni and parent member candidates through personal contacts, Alumni Relations, Development and the Secretary’s Office; convening meeting of the Committee to approve candidates; overseeing the new member packet to orient new members to the Society, and generating strategies for increasing Society membership.
Programming Committee
Chair: Phillip W. Cuffey C'82, G'97
Charge: To develop innovative and interesting programs to engage the JBS membership, the students, faculty, and administrators of color.
Duties include: Generating event/activity ideas, enlisting participants from the broader alumni body in Society events and activities, working with students to develop programming that is relevant and accessible to them; working with AR to plan and organize Society events.
Note: The Chairs of the JBS and the Chairs of each committee comprise the Executive Committee and participate on conference calls several times during the year regarding JBS business.
