JBS is an alumni organization committed to supporting the University of Pennsylvania's efforts to improve the quality of campus life for students, faculty, and administrators of color.
The JBS Student Leadership Awards recognize University of Pennsylvania students of color who meet the following criteria:
1. Demonstration of strong, positive leadership qualities;
2. 3.0 grade point average or higher;
3. Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity at Penn either via community service or a student activity; and
4. Exemplification of the commitment to achieving excellence at Penn.
We are currently seeking nominations for University of Pennsylvania Seniors to receive Student Leadership Awards from the following alumni organizations:
- James Brister Society;
- Association of Latino Alumni;
- Association of Native Alumni;
- Black Alumni Society; and
- University of Pennsylvania Asian Alumni Network
JBS will also present an award to a faculty member of color who has worked to advance JBS' mission on campus. Finally, PennGALA will present an award to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to serving and advancing LGBTQA diversity at the University of Pennsylvania.
Students are encouraged to nominate themselves. Alternatively, fellow students, Penn alumni, or members of the university staff or faculty may submit student nominations. If you do not have sufficient information to submit a complete nomination, please encourage your intended nominee to submit a self-nomination.
All winners are expected to attend the James Brister Society's 14th Annual Student and Faculty Leadership Awards Reception on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The location will be announced shortly.
