Alumni Message Board for Katrina

Penn's Hurricane Response

Former New Orleans Mayor Speaks on Campus

The Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005

Dear Fellow Pennsylvanian,

On behalf of Penn and Alumni Relations, I would like to extend our heartfelt concern to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. With close to 1,000 Penn alumni living in the Gulf Coast area, many are facing the difficult challenges of relocating their families, rebuilding their homes, and re-establishing their careers in the weeks and months ahead.

The University community of faculty, staff, and students has taken many steps toward providing assistance and outreach:

In addition, many of you - our Penn alumni - have also contributed to the numerous relief efforts underway in the affected regions. For example, PennNYC donated all of the proceeds from a silent auction to AmeriCares. Also, alumni clubs in neighboring cities, such as the Wharton Club of Houston and our Alumni Club in Atlanta, have offered outreach to fellow Quakers in need.

The rebuilding will be a long term process, so to encourage continued support, we have created a Penn alumni-specific message board to connect our alumni willing to help with those alumni in need. This site allows alumni to offer resources, post and seek jobs, and provide support in various ways. To either offer your support or to list a specific need, go to:

Thank you for your generosity and assistance to our fellow alumni. Our collective efforts will allow us to best serve the Penn family, today and in the future.

Sincerely,
Robert Alig, C'84, WG'87
Assistant Vice-President, Alumni Relations
