In honor of the 150th anniversary of the emancipation proclamation and Juneteenth, the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States, Dean Henry, W'74, PAR'04 (Penn alumnus and lifetime member of the Black Alumni Society) will lead a webinar to address the unique challenges that African-Americans face when attempting to document their family histories, particularly prior to 1865. He will discuss basic family research techniques, available resources, and how they led him to discoveries about ancestors who lived prior to, during, and following the Civil War. register here

As a Foreign Service officer, Matthew Asada has served
in border posts in South Asia (Kolkata, India;
Kunduz, Afghanistan; and Lahore, Pakistan) and Europe
(Munich, Germany). He staffed Ambassadors Marc Grossman and the late Richard Holbrooke domestically and overseas as they sought to forge a political settlement to the conflict in Afghanistan. Today he guides the next generation of American diplomats. Come hear about his experiences, and learn what advice he has for those whose interests lie at the intersection of politics and international relations..
