There was no support structure for African Americans that I can remember. Penn was a large impersonal place and although I received a great education and was introduced to computers (my lifelong vocation and avocation), I did not really enjoy my undergrad days there and have not been an active alum. However, in view of the changes that have taken place in the intervening years, the current focus on diversity, the support structures that are in place, and Dr. Gutmann’s leadership, my attitude towards my alma mater has changed significantly and I can now be counted on as a reengaged grad.”
