Gilbert F. Casellas has a broad and diverse range of successful experiences at the highest levels of business, law, and government. Most recently, he served as Vice President, Corporate Responsibility for Dell Inc. where he led the creation of an integrated and global corporate responsibility function that encompassed the company’s diversity, sustainability and corporate giving activities. He has previously served as Chairman of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, General Counsel of the Department of the Air Force and Co-Chairman of the U.S. Census Monitoring Board.

He has served as a member of Penn’s Board of Trustees since 1996 and in 2006 was named a Charter Trustee. He has served as President of the Law Alumni Society, Chairman of the Board of Overseers of the School of Social Policy & Practice and is currently an Overseer of the School of Nursing. He helped to establish and has supported the Latino Project Scholarship Fund at the Law School and has endowed a scholarship for undergraduate financial aid.

He is a member of the board of Prudential Financial, Inc. and a member of the Diversity Advisory Board of Toyota Motor North America Inc.  In 2009, he was appointed by President Obama to serve as a civilian member of the Military Leadership Diversity Commission.  He previously chaired the Committee on Workplace Diversity for Yale University and the board of the Hispanic Federation.  From 2001 to 2006, he was a member of The Coca-Cola Company’s Diversity Task Force.

He is a former President of the Hispanic National Bar Association and recipient of the “Spirit of Excellence” award from the American Bar Association and the U.S. Department of the Air Force’s Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service.

He received his B.A. from Yale University and his J.D. from University of Pennsylvania Law School and served as law clerk to the Hon. A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr., of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
