Take over our Instagram!

Penn alums are invited to show colleagues "a day in the life" via our Instagram account! Whether you're hosting a regional event, catching up with fellow Quakers at a happy hour, or are spending a day at home with family, show us how you spend your time as a Penn alum.

What is an Instagram Takeover?

An Instagram takeover is a social media event where a guest user takes control of a brand's or organization's Instagram for an allotted amount of time. During this temporary time of access for posting content, guest users are instructed to post content to either the Instagram Feed, Instagram Stories, Instagram Reels, Instagram Live, or a combination of these features.

What are some best practices?

1. Speak slowly, clearly, and at a reasonable volume so that users don't have to adjust their volume drastically. (Be sure to take a test video!)
2. As a general guideline, post no less than 8 story slides and no more than 20 story slides.
3. Keep it interesting! Vary your locations and content types. Vary content types by using still photos, videos, Boomerangs, filters, and stickers.
4. Ensure all content is university appropriate. Do not post anything illegal, offensive, dangerous, classified, or related to personal information (such as a phone number). Please avoid discussing religion and politics.

What are some takeover content ideas?

1. Always start with an introduction. Share your name, class, profession, location, interests, and more to help viewers get to know you!
2. Show us a day in the life of a Penn alum! Feel free to be creative and to be yourself. Use images and videos to capture your story. Show us different aspects of your day along with favorite memories from your time at Penn.
3. End with a wrap-up. This frame will serve as a conclusion slide. Thank the Penn Alumni community for following along and feel free to give your personal Instagram handle a shoutout to connect with other alum.
