The magnificent Black Sea region is still new territory for many visitors — an exciting irony, since so many pivotal events of world history have played out within its margins, from the fall of Constantinople to the fall of the Soviet Union. Sailing from Istanbul, aboard the all-suite, 114-guest Corinthian II, we feature a remarkable new destination on our voyage in 2009. Via chartered airplane, we will arrive amid the undulating hills of Romania's Bucovina region to see the astonishing 15th-century painted churches of Moldavia. We will also explore Bulgaria's historic town of Varna as well as Ukraine's Odessa, Yalta and Sevastopol, crucible of the Crimean War.

We are sharing this departure with alumni from Dartmouth College and travelers from the Archaeology Institute of America.

Lecturers:
  • Richard Ned Lebow, the James O. Freedman Presidential Professor of Government at Dartmouth College.
  • Archaeologists Dr. David Anthony and his wife Dorcas Brown. Dr. Anthony received his PhD from Penn in 1985.
