Ride the rails and stay in some of the world's most famous "Gilded Age" railway hotels as we journey from Toronto to Vancouver, exploring 3,000 miles of incredible views of mountains, lakes, vast plains, and forest. Begin in Toronto, then travel by train to the Rockies, staying at the Jasper Park Lodge, and continue through the mountains and glaciers of the Glacier Parkway. Spend two nights at the breathtaking Banff Springs Hotel before continuing on the Rocky Mountaineer train through four mountain ranges, following the old historic Canadian Pacific tracks. Pass through the northern extension of the American desert, near the precipitous walls of the Thompson and Fraser Rivers.
This trip is exclusive to Penn Alumni Travel and MIT Alumni. We will travel with retired MIT Senior Research Associate Carl Martland who will discuss the workings of the railway and the challenging and rapidly changing world of railway economics and technology in North America. We're also joined by historian Barry Lane, well known for his ability to communicate the fascination of Canadian history, and the romance of the Gilded Age of Travel.
