Travel with us across the sands of time to the world of ancient Egypt with David P. Silverman, Eckley Brinton Cox, Jr. Professor of Egyptology and curator in charge of the Egyptian section of the University of Pennsylvania Museum. Dr. Silverman is nationally recognized as curator of the recent Tut exhibit that just finished traveling throughout the U.S. and the Museum's complimentary Armana exhibit. You can be sure we will explore Tut's Tomb on our trip!
Making this trip even more spectacular will be our entrée into sites usually closed to the public, as arranged by Dr. Zahi Hawass, G'83, GR'87, Secretary General of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities. Dr. Hawass, who will share his recent discoveries with us at our Farewell Dinner, is a former student of Dr. Silverman and a Penn Museum Board member.
Trip highlights include:
- 7 day luxury Nile River Cruise to visit monument sites including Luxor, Thebes, Abu Simbal, Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu and Esna
- 4 day stay at the legendary Mena Hotel overlooking the Sphinx
- Visit the Museum's ongoing excavation dig at Abydos with Penn 2008 field director Dr. Josef Wegner
- Cairo Museum and early Coptic, Jewish and Islamic sites of Cairo
- Memphis, Sakkara, Giza, the great pyramids and the Sphinx
- The legendary Kahn El Khalili bazaar
Don't miss this spectacular trip. It will be one of our most memorable and something that won't happen again soon!
