Travel with us across the sands of time to the world of ancient Egypt on this custom tour designed exclusively for Penn Alumni Travel. Begin your journey in Cairo to visit early Coptic, Jewish and Islamic sites there. Then visit Luxor and the Valleys of the Kings and Queens and the Karnak temples as well as other tombs not open to the general public. Board our private charter for a seven day Nile River cruise to visit monument sites including Edfu, Aswan, Thebes, Abu Simel, Aswan, Kom Ombo, and Esna. A highlight will be visiting the latest discoveries at Abydos, the site the Penn Museum has been excavating since 1967. Finish our journey in Cairo with a visit to the pyramids at Giza and the Sphinx.

Drs. Josef and Jennifer Wegner, Egyptologists with the Penn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, will accompany this trip, providing lectures and their unique insights along the way.

Josef Wegner, Ph.D., G'89

Associate Professor, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations
Dr. Josef Wegner focuses his research on Middle Kingdom Egypt (ca. 2000-1600 BCE) and has conducted archaeological excavations at South Abydos, Egypt. He earned his Ph.D. in Egyptology from Penn.

Jennifer Houser Wegner, Ph.D., C'91
Associate Curator, Egyptian Section, Penn Museum
Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations
Dr. Wegner has contributed to numerous publications and presented at several annual meetings of the American Research Center in Egypt and at the International Congress of Egyptologists in Cambridge, UK. She has also served as Epigrapher/Artist on expeditions to Bersheh, Saqqara, and Abydos in Egypt. She earned her B.A. in Egyptology from Penn and her Doctorate from Yale University.
