2-5 PM Surrogates
Penn Film Festival Claudia Cohen Hall (formerly Logan Hall), G17
249 South 36th Street www.chooseyoursurrogate.com
In this gripping action thriller, people are living their lives remotely from the safety of their own homes via robotic surrogates — sexy, physically perfect mechanical representations of themselves. It's an ideal world where crime, pain, fear and consequences don't exist. When the first murder in years jolts this utopia, FBI agent Greer (starring Bruce Willis) discovers a vast conspiracy behind the surrogate phenomenon and must abandon his own surrogate, risking his life to unravel the mystery. Directed by Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Breakdown), Surrogates also stars Radha Mitchell, Rosamund Pike, James Cromwell, and Ving Rhames.
Based on a graphic novel, the film sets itself in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact with one another through surrogate robots. After years of isolation, a cop is forced to leave his home in order to investigate the murders of others' surrogates. The film was produced by Penn alumni Todd Lieberman (C'95), Elizabeth Banks (C'96), and Max Handelman (C'95). Learn more about the film by joining us for a panel discussion with Todd and Max after the movie.
