 Join Catalyst @ Penn GSE for Education Startup Legal Issues, one in a series of bootcamps designed to take education entrepreneurs from initial idea through to early stage startup.

OVERVIEW
In this intensive Catalyst bootcamp – offered online and in Philadelphia – entrepreneurs are guided by two attorneys specializing in tech and VC Law through effective strategies for overcoming the many challenges that frequently plague early-stage education startups.
Attendees will gain valuable information regarding corporate structure; IP ownership of patents and more; equity and vesting among co-founders and early-stage employees; data privacy (GDPR, COPPA, FERPA, SOPIPPA); data security; ADA compliance; insurance; and regulatory considerations.
You’ll leave the bootcamp with a roadmap for avoiding the pitfalls that can cost early-stage education startups valuable time and money.

FACILITATORS
Matt Johnson is an attorney in Cooley LLP’s Education, Education Technology, and Privacy & Data Security practice groups and resident in Cooley’s Washington, DC office. His practice primarily focuses on assisting education technology companies (from prefunding stage to IPO) and education institutions regarding the wide variety of legal and market issues impacting this highly regulated sector. Matt advises clients in the preK-12, postsecondary, and lifelong learning markets.
Danielle Gershowitz is a corporate and securities lawyer at Cooley LLP. Her practice focuses on the representation of high growth companies and their investors on varied transactions including entity formation, seed investments, venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, and public offerings.
Rita Ferrandino is the founding partner at Arc Capital Development, a global private investment and advisory firm. Arc invests in and operates companies in the K-20 education market and has served 105+ domestic and international clients. She is a featured lecturer in the Penn GSE Education Entrepreneurship Master’s Degree Program and a widely quoted expert on the subject.

FAQs
Who should attend this bootcamp?
This bootcamp is ideal for the entrepreneur, investor, educator, or researcher interested in learning about key decisions that should be addressed by early-stage enterprises serving the K-12 or Higher Education markets.
How can I participate as an online registrant?
As an alternative to joining in-person, online registrants may also join the Education Startup Legal Issues bootcamp by live webcast via the Zoom meeting platform. Online registrants should download the free Zoom app to their computer prior to November 12.
Can I receive CEUs for attending this bootcamp?
This bootcamp is not aligned with any professional development program and therefore does not qualify for CEUs.
Will I be able to ask the facilitator questions?
Prior to the bootcamp, all registrants will be asked to complete a short survey to share key questions they wish to see covered by the facilitator. In addition, at the end of the bootcamp, the facilitator will answer audience questions as time permits.
How applicable will the content of this bootcamp be to startups based outside of the US?
The focus of bootcamp will be based on US law regarding corporate structure and IP and US regulations relating to enterprises serving the education market. While some of these laws and regulations may have international application, the bootcamp will be US-focused.
