Committees

Which committee is right for you?

Alumni conversations take place virtually (by video chat or by phone), and volunteers are placed on a committee based on the information provided in their volunteer profile on the Portal*.

Volunteers are eligible to serve on one or more committees, depending on preference. If you would like to join a specific committee type, please include your preference in the comments section of your registration form. If you are a current volunteer interested in making a committee change, please submit your request via the Committee Info section of your volunteer profile on the Portal.

Types of Committees

Geographic Region
Regional committees pair alumni and applicants by geographic region, both domestically and internationally. A volunteer may be placed on the committee that corresponds to the address they used when registering as an alumni ambassador*. This address can be updated at any time from the Volunteer Portal.
Penn School / Program

School- and program-specific committees pair alumni with applicants based on their Penn school or program affiliation. These pairings often allow volunteers to share a more nuanced understanding of a particular program or academic area.

Graduates of Penn’s Coordinated Dual Degree and Specialized Programs will automatically be placed on their program-specific committee.

Penn First Plus
The Penn First Plus committee is dedicated to meeting with applicants who are identified as representing the first generation in their families to attend college and/or have substantial financial need.

*Please note that some areas (such as NYC, D.C., and Philadelphia) tend to have many more volunteers than applicants. If an alumnus lives in an area where they may not receive an assignment, they will be placed in a committee that corresponds to their school or program affiliation.
