Experience The Power of Penn: Advancing Knowledge for Good


On Wednesday, 6 March, Penn President Amy Gutmann will join alumni, parents, and friends from across Asia in Hong Kong to celebrate The Power of Penn.
A presentation of the Knowledge for Good panel series will feature President Gutmann and distinguished faculty members in conversation about how our University plans to grow inclusion, spark innovation, and accelerate impact around the world.  Following the program, a lively reception will provide an opportunity for guests to connect with the speakers and each other.

Winka Dubbeldam
Ella Warren Shafer Miller Professor and Chair of Architecture, Penn Weitzman School of Design

Winka DubbeldamWinka Dubbeldam is an award-winning Dutch architect who has designed elegant and innovative structures around the world. In addition to her academic work, she is founding partner of the firm Archi-Tectonics in New York City. Sustainability, efficiency, and smart building systems are hallmarks of her design. Some of her notable projects include the GW497 and V33 buildings in New York and a self-sustainable school in Liberia. In 2018, she was awarded the Asian Games 2022 project in Hangzhou, China. Dubbeldam is the recipient of several honors, including being named by DesignIntelligence as one of the 30 Most Admired Educators (2015).
 
David Galligan
Marilyn M. Simpson Endowed Professor in Large Animal Clinical Studies, Penn Vet

David GalliganWith a degree from Penn Vet and an MBA from Wharton, David Galligan works at the intersection of animal health and economics. The director of the Center for Animal Health and Productivity, he strives to improve the health and productivity of animals in the dairy and agricultural industries, increasing efficiency, and limiting negative impacts to the environment. Galligan is helping agricultural partners at home in Pennsylvania and as far away as China create a sustainable dairy industry by reducing water use, limiting greenhouse gas emissions, and addressing food scarcity challenges.
 
 
Karl T. Ulrich
Vice Dean of Entrepreneurship and Innovation; CIBC Professor; Professor of Operations, Information and Decisions, Wharton


Karl T. UlrichKarl Ulrich oversees the operation of Penn Wharton Entrepreneurship on Penn’s Philadelphia campus and at Wharton’s San Francisco campus, and has an appointment in mechanical engineering at the School of Engineering and Applied Science. His work focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship, and product development. The founder of Terrapass, Inc. and the designer of the Xootr scooter, Ulrich holds more than 20 patents. He is the co-founder of Penn’s student-run innovation hub, the Weiss Tech House, as well as the multi-school Integrated Product Design Program. He is also the recipient of the Helen Kardon Moss Anvil Award, the Miller-Sherrerd MBA Core Teaching Award, and Wharton’s Excellence in Teaching Award.
