Getting from “it’s not working” to “effective networking” using LinkedIn

Dr. Joseph Barber is a Senior Associate Director at the University of Pennsylvania’s Career Services, and an Adjunct Professor at Hunter College (CUNY). Dr. Barber earned his PhD from the University of Oxford, completing research focusing on chickens. He spent three years as a postdoctoral Research Fellow at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. In his current role at Penn, Dr. Barber provides career advice to graduate students, postdocs, and graduate alumni, encouraging them to develop professional and career development strategies that help them to identify future career paths. He enjoys the creative process of helping people reframe their past experiences to align them more effectively with their future career goals. As a member of the Graduate Career Consortium, the professional association of career development professionals working with graduate students and postdocs, Dr. Barber coordinates and writes for the Carpe Careers blog on the Inside Higher Ed website – providing optimistic and actionable advice on all aspects of the job search process.
