Join Jamal Elias, the Walter H. Annenberg Professor in the Humanities, and a scholar of religion, history, literature, culture, and art, and Penn Alumni Travel for an informative session about our upcoming Moroccan Discovery trip (November 2018). This webinar will take a brief look at the tour itinerary before discussing travel tips and answering any questions you may have. This session will be open to Q&A throughout.

Jamal J. Elias is the Walter H. Annenberg Professor in the Humanities, and a scholar of religion, history, literature, culture, and art. His primary focus is on the Islamic world and he has travelled widely from Morocco and Spain to Southeast Asia for research and pleasure. A recipient of many grants and awards, he is the author of numerous publications on a broad range of topics relevant to the medieval and modern Islamic world, and his writings have been translated into at least nine languages. His most recent books are Alef is for Allah: Childhood, Emotion and Visual Culture in Islamic Societies (Berkeley, 2018) and Aisha’s Cushion: Religious Art, Perception and Practice in Islam (Cambridge, MA, 2012). He is also a flamenco guitar player and a photographer whose work has been shown in galleries in the US and abroad.
